Sunday Afternoon at Yann Couvreur’s

Sunday Afternoon at Yann Couvreur’s

Yann Couvreur, a young pastry chef, opened his first tea salon/pastry shop in May this year. As his pastries looked incredibly tasty on instagram, my friends and I decided to make them our Sunday afternoon treats!

Once we reached the boutique, we realized that there were not many seats… Besides this, it was a Sunday afternoon at 4pm, our chances of being seated were  indeed pretty slim. However, we got lucky and managed to squeeze in! I chose to try their chestnut and mandarin tart, as it reminded me of autumn and its fallen leaves, and these past days’ gloomy weather. Although the flavors of chestnut and mandarin blended well together, the taste of chestnut was still light and it might be a little plain for some people.

We wanted to try more variety of pastries, but unfortunately, most of them were already sold out, which explains these few pictures… We’ll be back!

Travel travel, part 2.

Traveling has been a recurring topic these days. I spent my Sunday afternoon with friends, who just came back from South Korea and Japan and we happily talked about our future trips.

Recently I have heard from another friend, who holds a travel blog. She is writing her next post on reasons why people travel and asked me to take part in it. I found  her project fascinating because I have actually never asked myself this question. Why do we travel? Why do I travel? These sounded funny to me, but they really got me thinking.

Why do I travel?

I travel because I want to get out of my comfort zone. Although I did most of my traveling with family and friends, I would love to travel by myself one day and see how I behave and interact with people in unfamiliar situations. I want to have the ‘I am on my own, what do I do?’ kind of feeling. Basically, I am looking for adrenaline I guess. But most importantly, I am looking forward to ‘meeting’ the other me. Wait… I sound like I am schizophrenic but let me explain! As our personality is made of different aspects, traveling on our own gives us the opportunity to get to know ourselves better.

How is this getting out of our comfort zone? Well, sometimes learning about oneself is not ‘without effort’. ‘You’ meeting ‘you’ also requires courage in accepting who you are because you may realize something about yourself that you are not necessarily proud of. This happens, and knowing our flaws is equally as important as knowing our strengths, so that we can become better people.

Anyway, I was more than happy to participate in my friend’s project. I am very eager to know the other reasons people travel, as it must be so enriching! I’ll share the link here once it’s out, stay tuned!
