Fondation Café, just like in Australia

Fondation Café, just like in Australia

Barista: What can I get you?
Me: What do you serve in those cute green cups?
Barista: Flat white.
Me: Then flat white, please.

I usually go for a latte but, just for those cups, I got a flat white! Aren’t they cute??

Fondation Cafe is located in the hip area of Paris, in the upper Marais, close to Temple and République station. The place doesn’t have many seats but the staff is very nice and friendly. Plus, they serve amazing coffee from Cuillier, and that’s what matters, right?

Lot of people have been comparing this coffeeshop with the ones in Australia — or “Oz”. I have heard numerous times that they have the best coffee in the world, which got me wondered why. So, I did a little bit of research.

The land of coffeeshops

In the 20th century and especially during the Second World War, Greek and Italian immigrants brought in their luggage their stove top coffee-makers to Australia. Although it was more time-consuming, they used them to make high quality expresso and shared with their new friends. Soon, businesses and coffeeshops followed. When the world was using drip coffee or filter coffee, Australia created a coffee culture based on excellence, rather than convenience.

Baristas, who are treated more like chefs than waiters, take that solid espresso and build on it. There are enough coffee events and competitions in order to maintain  quality and encourage creativity.
