Avocado on toast and sweet potato chips at Season Market

Avocado on toast and sweet potato chips at Season Market

For our friend Julien’s birthday, we took him to enjoy a hip birthday brunch in the upper Marais. So, Season it was!

Cathy Closier founded that place in 2015 and there are (already) a couple of branches in Paris. We strategically picked Season Market. Although the food choice is slightly limited, there is usually no queue. Whereas at Season, during peak time, it can go up to an hour wait. You choose.

My friends, Julien, Morgane and Alex, and I started with acai bowls, a cool kid muesli and a Hinalys – matcha brioche. The banana and acai pulp of the acai bowl blended perfectly well together. Its softness and strong flavor reminded me of a thick smoothie, and along with delicious dried coconut, poppy and sunflower seeds and fresh berries, it was such a lovely way to wake up.

The muesli was equally as nice. The Greek yogurt was composed of cereals, honey, almonds, poppy and sunflower seeds, sesame and fresh fruits. At first we were afraid that it might be so filling and that we won’t be able to eat anything else after, but it was much lighter than we expected.

As for the leopard print loaf, it was indeed very pretty and “Instagram-able” but I found it a little too dry. Although I don’t mind its sweetness, this later unfortunately took over the matcha flavor. If it was softer and fluffier, I would have gotten a second one.

Avocado on toast… and sweet potato chips

Season Market mainly serves avocado on toast with a side. Thus, we got different toppings such as chicken breast and smoked salmon, but we also ordered a plain avocado toast, all of them were accompanied with crispy sweet potato chips. I enjoyed how fresh, simple and healthy the food was. As for drinks, their juices are very nice and the matcha latte is not bad either, I just found it a bit too foamy.

Their wooden cutleries paired with cactus (everywhere) and their minimalist aesthetic make the place look not only casual but also sophisticated and clean.

After that, we offered Julien an escape game session, as he appreciates playing detective!

I have stopped giving physical presents to my family and friends for a couple of years now, instead I would rather offer services and time that they can spend with me. Indeed, this requires much more effort, but it is extremely rewarding.

Time is your most precious gift.

Last year, two of my very good friends came to visit me in the UK. I haven’t seen them for three years, so we had a lot to catch up. On our train ride back from Cambridge, one of the girls asked us how good of a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, a friend, a girlfriend we thought we were. I thought it was a very interesting question. I found it not only extremely intriguing but also great food for thought (see… one year later, I am still working on it).

I think I can confidently rate myself as a good friend and a decent sister, but a terrible daughter and maybe an awful granddaughter. Why do I say that? How I get to this conclusion is based on the amount of time I give to each of these roles. I realised that I talked, hung out and spent a lot of time with my friends, but did not call or have dinner with my family as often as I should and even less with my grandparents.

That’s when you see that time is the most precious gift you could ever give to someone. When you give someone time, do not forget that you give him/her a part of your life

Time is the only gift that you cannot get back.

Now, whenever I go back home, I try to give more time to my parents and have dinner with them at least twice, and I ALWAYS make time to have lunch with my grandpa. As for my friends, I make a doodle poll and let them book in some time with me.

I couldn’t think of a better quote than Rick Warren’s:

“Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.

It is not enough to just say relationships are important; we must prove it by investing time in them. Words alone are worthless. “My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.” Relationships take time and effort, and the best way to spell love is “T-I-M-E.”
